Theater

5/15/22 UPDATE:

Unfortunately, since the worldwide health crisis that has affected many of us, Avalonia 7 Theater Festival has been greatly delayed in taking place as planned. On a personal front, the venue we had originally booked for our festival is no longer in use, which has further complicated our situation. Discussions with other venues have been hampered by unforeseen and unpredictable outbreaks of illness variants. The very nature of what we are trying to do (seven short plays with casts ranging from one to five Actors each) calls for a considerable amount of people working in close proximity to each other, which is not ideal at the moment as we try to put a finality to this contagious health crisis. With these and other factors in mind, we are putting our live performance of our Avalonia 7 Theater Festival on hold until circumstances are better for everyone.

We will NOT put out a call for any more play entries UNTIL we have successfully performed the works of our current Winners. In the meantime, we’d like to thank our playwrights for their talents and understanding and invite the public to enjoy the interviews we’ve had with our Avalonia Award-Winning playwrights. Here is a selection of interviews with this talented group of writers!

We are happy to announce our 7 Winning Plays for Avalonia 7 Theater Festival as well as a list of 16 Honorable Mentions from the great field of stage play scripts and monologue submissions we received in our first season.

We want to thank FilmFreeway for hosting our entry page https://filmfreeway.com/Avalonia7TheaterFestival

We also thank Harrison at Play Submissions Helper https://playsubmissionshelper.com/ for helping us get the word out! Mike discusses Avalonia 7 Theater Festival here on Jacksonville Buzz!

Congratulations to our honorable mentions!

We had a great deal of talented playwrights enter many well written scripts this season. In selecting only 7 plays to stage, we certainly had many tough choices and the judging decisions were extremely difficult. In fact, it was even a challenge to only list the following sixteen plays as Honorable Mentions from the MANY great plays we received, so we want to say THANK YOU and KEEP WRITING to all the playwrights who entered Avalonia 7 Theater festival this year!

In this section below, we want to honor our Honorable Mentions and encourage these playwrights to continue on their writing journey.

ARCHIVED POST: FESTIVAL LAUNCH and “HOW TO ENTER” INFORMATION!

Mike Messier, Creative Director of Avalonia Festival, a festival of short films 21 minutes & under, often named a FilmFreeway Top 100 Best Reviewed Festival, looks forward to opening the floodgates of Avalonia 7 Theater Festival for new, original works of the bold and the sublime. Submissions in the following categories will be accepted from now until April 1, 2020:

1) Student Showcase (exclusive category for writers from grade school through high school)

2) Comedic Monologue or Very Short Play

3) Dramatic Monologue or Very Short Play

4) Comedic (About) Ten Minute Play

5) Dramatic (About) Ten Minute Play

6) Comedic One Act Play

7) Dramatic One Act Play

If you have a stage-play written in one of our seven above categories that you’d like us to consider for Avalonia 7 Theater Festival, please enter through our page at FilmFreeway (if you’re new to FilmFreeway, look below for the simple instructions!)

Three (and for some, just two) Simple Steps to enter Avalonia 7 Theater Festival:

1) Create a FilmFreeway account for yourself if you don’t have one already from the website https://filmfreeway.com/AvaloniaFestival You can choose to list your prior works and accomplishments on your profile page, similar to an IMDB page. This is FREE to do! Approximate time of this step is 7 minutes.

2) Create a Project Page for your script (or scripts if you have more than one) . This is where you will upload your script (s) and some basic info about it! This is also FREE to do! Approximate time of this step is 5 minutes.

3) Submit each script’s Project Page to Avalonia 7 Theater Festival THROUGH the FilmFreeway website. This is where you will pay the entry fees for each script you enter! FilmFreeway accepts credit card both payments and paypal . You can enter as many scripts as you like and there are no restrictions if your script has been previously produced. Approximate time of this step is 1 minute!

GOOD NEWS: An upside to this process is that you now have your script backed up safely in a “virtual folder” of sorts in your new FilmFreeway projects page and YOU can control who, when and where has access to YOUR scripts! If you ever need access to one of your scripts remotely and have access to the internet, you’ll have your FilmFreeway as a handy back up resource!

OPTIONAL: After you’ve entered our festival, you may find OTHER festivals on FilmFreeway that have stage-play categories that you can choose to enter if you wish. We are not associated with any other festival besides the original Avalonia Festival for Short Films etc. So, once you’ve gone through the process of steps 1 and 2 to enter OUR festival, you do NOT have to repeat those same steps to enter OTHER festivals with stage-play categories!

For organizational purposes, the ONLY way to enter a script into Avalonia 7 Theater Festival is through our FilmFreeway entry page from this link! Sorry, no exceptions in the interest of FAIRNESS to ALL!

About Avalonia 7 Theater Festival:

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages….” – William Shakespeare, As You Like It.

And now for something completely different” – Title of an anthology of the best sketches from the first and second seasons of Monty Python’s Flying Circus

While William was using divisions of “seven ages” to denote different stages of one’s life, the “7” in Avalonia 7 Theater Festival denotes the seven different categories in which we are accepting stage-plays for our live theater festival taking place at Jacksonville, Florida’s All Beaches Experimental Theatre (ABET) with a performance of the full program of seven new, original works at 5pm.

Avalonia 7 Theater Festival is the new sister theater festival to the popular Avalonia Festival for short films (often named a FilmFreeway Top 100 Best Reviewed Festival).

Enter as many scripts as you wish but each script must be submitted separately! Click the link button here to enter:
