The HISTORY OF THE CIRCLE OF CHAMPIONS:

Most film festivals have nothing at all like our Circle of Champions. If you find anything like it elsewhere, let me know.

The idea of the Circle of Champions was to have an online “display case” of our Award Winners that could be easily shared online to Honor, Celebrate and Promote our Award Winners. Rather than a physical trophy that can only be enjoyed by its possessor and those in direct contact with it, I wanted to provide our Winners a “virtual place” they could share their accolades with the world and to see the Awards of other Winners, thus creating some networking and opportunity for professional growth.

For Avalonia Festival and Avalonia Festival II, I created personalized Awards for each and every film. This was a very unique presentation and both myself and the filmmakers really liked these awards. The downside, however, was the long amount of time to create these awards, and then transfer them to files that could be shared online, which tested both my own patience and that of the Award Winners.

So, to expedite the process, for Avalonia Festival III, I enlisted the help of my sister, graphic designer Nadine Messier of tikiwahine.com who designed the above Award Certificate for our third festival only with my own creative input. The result I think is a sleeker and more “welcoming” Award, although there is a certain charm from the Avalonia Festival I and II Awards, which most (about 80% percent) of the Award Winners seemed to prefer.

So by majority decision and feedback, starting with Avalonia Festival IV, I went to a “new style” of individualized Awards moving forward.

The Circle of Champions was somewhat “on hold” during this transition but I am happy to bring it back to life!
